Save the Date!

I know I've been M.I.A. lately, just one of those weeks!

This symposium looks awesome, but as always, I can't go because I work on Saturdays.

Curating and Risk: An International Symposium
SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010, 10:00 am - 5 pm
Moore College of Art & Design
20th & The Parkway

Admission free and open to the public.

Curating and Risk: An International symposium is the fifth in a series of public conversations about issues and ideas in contemporary curatorial practice. Through a series of grouped conversations with an international roster of distinguished panelists, we will examine multiple ways in which artists and curators relate to concepts of risk. In a time of many insecurities, rather than turning toward safety, what range of thinking can be opened when risk is embraced rather than avoided? What is a risky project/idea—-financial, political, artistic, intellectual, aesthetic, moral, organizational, conceptual, administrative? How are the successes and failures of risky projects to be assessed? Or has risk become simply trendy? What is really at stake?

Among featured panelists:
--Sheryl Conkelton, one of Philagrafika 2010's curator team
--Homer Jackson, Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artist
--Ruby Lerner, the CEO of Creative Capital
--Aaron Levy, Director of the Slought Foundation
-- Lin + Lam, interdisciplinary collaborative artist team (Lana Lin & Lan Thao Lam)
--Radhika Subramaniam-- Director of the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons the New School for Design
--Nato Thompson, Chief Curator at Creative Time

Moderators:
Janet Kaplan, Professor of Art History and Director of Curatorial Studies, Moore
Lorie Mertes, Director and Chief Curator, The Galleries at Moore
