I'm working on a new piece for The Photo Center's Miniatures chapter of PHOTOLUST. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, I like the concept but I'm working with new materials and I really need to get a handle on it. I've printed one of my photographs titled The Last Embrace and am playing with hand-stitching some text onto it. For now I've settled on "Please Don't Let me Go," in reference to Scott Alan's song which speaks of a relationship that surprises you and takes hold of your entire being to the point where you don't want to be let go of, ever. The juxtaposition of image and text is ironic in that the embrace is tender and the words suggest a desire to hold on to it, however the title of the work (The last Embrace) determines a finality that is devastating.
I wanted to just play with a different material for the heck of it. Plus I felt this needed to be done in a sort of layered way, physically. I have yet to work out the details as far as presentation and even decide if I want to do this at all. I have sewn the words onto silk and the image is printed on cotton.
