Elene Usdin at Farmani Gallery

Earlier this week I got a little preview of Femmes D'Interieur, the latest show opening at Farmani Gallery this Thursday Feb. 18th. Elene Usdin is a French photographer and illustrator who combines contemporary photography with traditional painting techniques by painting directly onto the surface of her photographs. Usdin draws from historical representations of women, transcribing them with her brush into contemporary photographic spaces -most times morphing them with household objects, literally objectifying women by turning them into a ready-made.

Having seen the imagery in person, I can safely say that the work is absolutely beautiful and worth seeing. Her craftsmanship is superb and the concept proves a unique and somewhat comical approach to feminist social commentary.
